The Ultimate Forms: Voting column adds powerful, user-friendly voting capabilities to any SharePoint list or document. It enables quick user feedback, structured validation, idea ranking, and lightweight decision-making — directly from list views, without opening forms or requiring special permissions.
Instructions
Why use Voting Columns?
Voting columns are ideal for scenarios where you need:
- fast team feedback,
- structured voting instead of long comment threads,
- rating documents, ideas, proposals or requests,
- encouraging engagement even from read-only users,
- item ranking by popularity or importance,
- optional responsibility tracking via item Owners.
The column works smoothly in collaborative environments, transforming a simple list into an interactive feedback board.
What Voting Columns can do:
The Voting column provides:
- Vote directly from views (no form open required)
- Voting available even to readers
- Optional single or multiple votes per user
- Allow upvotes only or upvote + downvote
- Show voter names and vote values
- Add optional comments for discussions
- Create a talkback section below item details
- Prevent item Owners from voting on their own items
- Number of votes and percentage displayed
- Sort by ranking in views
How Voting Works?
- A Voting column is added to a list or library
- Users click voting buttons directly from the view
- System records:
- the vote value (up/down)
- the user who voted
- vote timestamp
- (Optional) User leaves a comment or feedback
- Item Owner can be defined to:
- track responsibility
- block the Owner from voting on their own items
- Voting totals and percentages are automatically calculated and displayed in list views
