Hi. What would cause the Allow Categories checkbox to be grayed out?

From watching the video, I seems that I should be able to use any column as a category column. For instance, I have a request form that has a status fields with multiple options like submitted, acknowledge, complete. Once of the people using the form wants the event to go away when the status is complete. From watching the video I thought that if I could use Status as the Category she could do that pretty easily. Is there a way to "force" it to see the Status column as a Category?

Category-accepted columns must be of type Choice or Color Choice.

It worked, but now the events are invisible. I did the Cover event with color in a previous step. If I uncheck Allow Categories they show back up in the color I picked. Is there a setting I missed. They are still there and I can see the columns I picked for hovering, but it is less useful invisible. Thank you for such quick responses so far.

Also, is there a way to change the background color of the event in the Calendar view?

Use "Cover event with color" option.

I'm not sure if my response went through. After getting the categories to work, the only thing visible in the calendar is a small box in the color I picked which displays the hover text, but the font and background color for the "event" are both white. What can I do to make them visible again?

If I am using this to show a person who is on vacation multiple days is there a setting that I'm missing that makes the calendar mark all the days entered? As a test I entered a 2 day vacation for someone, but the even only shows on the first day. Should I be using something different? The request is just to show the vacation so we can be sure we have coverage. There is another company system for approving the vacation. I need this to be simple.

How would you do recurring events?

It does it automatically, just make sure to correctly configure the data source.
