Simple First Time Associated Items Step by Step

Infowise Associated Items let you build parent & child relationships between lists – you can even add multiple detail lines in a form, something you just can’t do in SharePoint out of the box.

These steps show the most basic set up. After changing the content type in the child list, you can add and reconfigure fields as needed.


We'll start by adding a couple of new lists. The main list will be called Projects. Click the small gear icon in the upper right and then click Add an app in the pop-up menu.

On the Add an app page, select Custom List.

Create your first list named Projects; create a second list in the same way named Deliverables.

In the Deliverables list, click the small gear icon in the upper right corner and then click List Settings.

On the List Setting page, click Advanced Settings.

Change the Allow management of content types to Yes, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click OK.

Back on the List setting page, scroll down to the Content Types area and click the Item link.

Select Delete this content type.

Back again on the List Settings page, scroll down to the Content Type area and click Add from Existing site content types.

In the Add Content Types dialog, select Infowise as the content type. Click Infowise Associated item to select it, then click Add.

The item will appear in the Content types to add column. Click OK to finish and return to the List Settings page.

Now, return to the Projects list. Click the Ultimate Forms Design icon in the menu bar.

On the Ultimate Forms dashboard page, click Associated Items in the Columns section.

Click the + symbol to add a new Associated item column.

In the Associated item dialog, enter a Title and optional description for the column. Make sure the Child list field is pointing to the correct list, and that the content type is displaying Infowise Associated Item.

You have the options to restrict the display to a specific view, or make the associated item column non-editable. You can also rename the new colun using the New item label field.

When you're done with your changes, click Save. Your new Associated item will now be visible in the list of items.

The column will also now be visible in the Projects list.
